Introduction
“Silence can be more dangerous than disease.”
This month, we celebrate Joseph, Anthony, Graham, and Tunde—four remarkable voices in the PC-PEP community whose lived experiences with prostate cancer are helping reshape conversations around survivorship, masculinity, and Black men’s health across the globe.
Spanning England, Canada, the Caribbean, and Nigeria, their journeys reflect diverse cultures, health systems, and personal realities. Yet together, they reveal a shared truth: prostate cancer is not just a diagnosis—it is an experience that reshapes identity, relationships, and how life is understood.
Each man came to this journey in his own way—through uncertainty, fear, advocacy, or transformation. Through openness and courage, they have chosen not only to navigate their own paths, but to speak, share, and lead—helping others feel less alone in the process.
Their collective voice reminds us that healing is not only clinical—it is deeply human, relational, and shaped through connection.
Their Guiding Messages
“Prostate cancer is more than a diagnosis—it changes how you live, think, and relate to others.”
“Strength is not silence. Strength is speaking, sharing, and seeking support.”
“You are not alone—community changes everything.”
“Early action creates options—and can save your life.”
“Real change happens in what you do every day.”
🎧 Hear Their Story
In this powerful episode of the PC-PEP Podcast, Dr. Gabriela Ilie brings together Joseph, Anthony, Graham, and Tunde in an honest and deeply human conversation about prostate cancer and survivorship.
Each man speaks openly—not to represent all Black men, but to illuminate what is too often left unspoken. Together, they reflect on stigma, masculinity, inequities in care, and the importance of community in healing.
Their stories span:
- Joseph’s reflections on identity, resilience, and letting go of invincibility
- Anthony’s advocacy shaped by family risk and the importance of early screening
- Graham’s experience navigating complexity, comorbidities, and aging
- Tunde’s perspective on stigma, access, and transformation in Nigeria
What emerges is not a single narrative, but a shared understanding:
when men speak honestly, something shifts—and healing becomes possible.

Beyond statistics, it affects identity, relationships, and daily life in profound ways.
Survivorship is lived—not just measured
Healing is shaped through habits, mindset, and meaning, not just treatment outcomes.
Silence and stigma must be broken
Across cultures, many men struggle to speak openly. Breaking that silence is essential.
Disparities are real—and must be addressed
Black men face higher risks, but also barriers in trust, access, and culturally safe care.
Community is a form of medicine
Connection reduces isolation and creates the conditions for healing and growth.
Action transforms outcomes
Daily practices—movement, nutrition, mental health care—create meaningful change.
